That’s the Ridge, Brooke, and Taylor situation. That was soap bread and butter for a really long time.”
However, times have changed. Clifton points out that the idea of a man being pulled in multiple romantic directions no longer resonates the way it once did. “I don’t think we live in that world anymore. It’s not only not attractive, but it’s beginning to be unattractive,” he said. For modern audiences, a character like Liam needs more dimension than simply being caught in a love triangle.
Perspective Is Everything, Including in Playing Liam
So how does Clifton approach playing Liam in this new era of storytelling? He admits that he’s adjusting his perspective on the character. “It just means when I’m playing Liam, I’m recognizing that I’m not playing the hero,” he shared. “I’m playing that [bleep] that we all know and tolerate, but we wish that he treated women better.”
This nuanced approach allows Clifton to stay true to the essence of Liam while also reflecting a more contemporary view of relationships. He balances Liam’s flaws with moments of sincerity and growth, showing audiences that while Liam may still struggle, he isn’t the same man stuck in outdated romantic patterns.
